The target was to make an efficient 160m antenna that fits into a 75m antenna's space, is coax fed and requires NO tuner or ground radials. Total cost was under $40.
Materials list:

CQ WW 2006 CW as SET
One week before the CQ WW Contest, on November 18, 2006, I saw an announcement about emergency communications exercise arranged by the IARU Region I. This event, called by the organizers as the 'First EmCom party on the Air' was, according to the announcement, restricted for HQ-stations and special emergency groups. Good to see that the European Amateur Radio organizations try to simulate distress radio activities. In general, European ham radio operators are not welcome to assist the authorities. "

Photo: R. A. Wilson, N6TVContesting (also known as radiosport) is a competitive activity pursued by amateur radio operators. In a contest, an amateur radio station, which may be operated by an individual or a team, seeks to contact as many other amateur radio stations as possible in a given period of time and exchange information. Rules for each competition define the amateur radio bands, the mode of communication that may be used, and the kind of information that must be exchanged. The contacts made during the contest contribute to a score by which stations are ranked. Contest sponsors publish the results in magazines and on web sites."

2007 Spring VHF & Up Sprints

2007 Spring VHF & Up Sprints: "2007 Spring VHF/UHF Sprints
Sponsored by
John Kalenowsky, K9JK, and Steve Gilmore, W4SHG
John Kalenowsky, K9JK, and Steve Gilmore, W4SHG, with support from Ham Radio Outlet of Virginia, are pleased to announce the 2007 Spring VHF/UHF Sprints. Everyone is encouraged to participate, even if only in a small way. The rules have intentionally remained simple, and the contest's focus continues to be for single operator, single transmitter entries, both 'fixed' and 'rover'. A new item for 2007, is a 'Rookie' classification, to recognize 'first-time' participants, from their own stations OR as 'guest-op' at an 'experienced' station to introduce newcomers to weak signal vhf/uhf operations and, hopefully, encourage their participation in the future. Guidance from an experienced operator for a 'Rookie' IS permitted as long as entries in this class are clearly identified by comments in the SOAPBOX: lines for Cabrillo formatted logs or on the Summary Sheet for paper logs. The detail should identify who is the 'Rookie' and list any 'experienced' operator(s) who were present. "
