"Alaska broadcast pioneer Augie Hiebert works to inspire the next generation of media professionals

By Margaret Bauman
Alaska Journal of Commerce

At a time in his life when many men relax in a rocking chair, communications pioneer Augie Hiebert has become a Pied Piper of the future of broadcast education in public schools.

'You ought to see what those 11- and 12-year-old kids can do,' said Hiebert, who travels to Mirror Lake Middle School about once a month, with his daughter, Cathy, to watch the students produce news programs for their peers. His entourage may include anyone else in the community he believes can contribute to the program."

First Polish ham radio DX contact - SPTPAX

First Polish ham radio DX contact - SPTPAX

"First Polish ham radio DX contact - SPTPAX
Look for special event station SPTPAX to be active in December and then again in April.

The activity is organized by the SP DX Club. Expect activity on all bands (LF, HF, VHF, UHF) on all possible modes. QSL via SP7DQR (by the bureau or direct).

This activity is to celebrate the first Polish amateur radio contact to a ham radio station from outside Poland in 1925. Tadeusz Heftman, using the call SP0TPAX, made a QSO with N0PM - it was a station from the Netherlands.

A few months later, in April 1925, TPAX made a QSO with an American HAM who was using U1AAO as a callsign.

Please note: Tom, SP5UAF, is looking for any ham who may possibly have any information about these two historical callsigns - N0PM or U1AAO.
Contact Tom, SP5UAF, at: tomek@sp5zcc.waw.pl"
