Startups

Startups: "START-UP APPLICATIONS
DO YOU REALLY NEED ALL OF THEM?"

Highly recommended:******

This just came in from one of the lists from David Berstein AA6YQ.

After many years in computers and on the internet I can truely say that these are really good sites for anyone just starting out and needing to learn more on how to get a handle on what your machine is doing in the background.

Here you will find allot of information on your windows operating systems and how to undo as well as avoid many of the pitfalls of many situations involving the various Windows Operating systems. Updates are done on these sites often.

Dave says here are some additional URLs you may find useful as well:

http://www.greatis.com/appdata/index.html
- provides lists of necessary, optional, an useless startup applications.

http://www.informationweek.com/story/showArticle.jhtml?
articleID=12803660

- describes good hygiene for Windows 98

http://www.aumha.org/win4/a/resource.php
- provides an explanation of the Windows Resources problem

http://vlaurie.com/computers2/Articles/resource.htm
- another explanation of the Windows Resources problem

Logger by K4CY

Logger by K4CY: Logger current version: Beta 7 Zakanaka

One of the most easy to use yet most extensive Logging Programs around today even does CW and PSK for you. Don't worry about the "Beta" thing. It works just as is and if you have any trouble it will be negligible and easily rectified.

For general logging this can't be beat. Great customer service through the Yahoo!! Groups email that can be delivered right to your pop3 email program.

If you want everything in one place this is the one to get.

Don't miss this one!!! :0)

hfradio.org - Propagation - HF and SWL Live Propagation Data and Forecasts

hfradio.org - Propagation - HF and SWL Live Propagation Data and Forecasts: "eAlert Service - receive automated e-mail alerts of live propagation information.

Do you wish to be e-mailed when the Solar / Geomagnetic conditions (Flux, Ap, Kp, Solar Wind, Sunspot Number, and so on) change? This is the HFRadio.org eAlert Service which is an automated e-mail alert that is sent to your e-mail address (which could be tied to your pager, cellphone, or PDA, for instance) whenever certain conditions change (Ap, Kp, Flux). This allows you to stay informed about current conditions. "

This is absolutely one of the most accurate services I have seen in a long time. I have been using this service for a while now and have gotten many mailings which I have checked out at the government sites. All of the data you will get is accurate and best of all relevent.

VE7CC DX Cluster

VE7CC DX Cluster: "With the setup shown, the program is waiting for incoming connections from logging programs on port 7300. If the logging program is running in the same machine, use the local telnet loopback port (127.0.0.1 :7300). If the logging program is in a different machine, telnet to this machines IP address at port 7300. The number of logging program connections is unlimited. To enable or disable this feature, you need to go to 'Configuration>Ports/Logging Program>Logging Program Connection>Telnet'."

It just got easier. I now have this Cluster program by VE7CC configured for three different logging programs that I own, including LOGGER32 - N1MM - and others.

You won't be sorry you tried this one believe me.

With this one the VU4 will only be a click away and best of all IT'S FREE.

YPlog by Tony Field (VE6YP)

Here is one of the best logging programs that I have seen in quite a while. I was really impressed with how easy it was to configure. Not only a great back up for contesting, but could very well be a good main logging program

Hope you like it.

Tony Field (VE6YP): "YPlog for WIN95/98/ME/NT/2K is a ham radio logging and radio control program. The control panel works with all Icom, Kenwood, some Yaesu and Ten-Tec radios. If no compatible radio is available, the logging features may be used without a radio connected. Extensive contesting features are included for many international contests "

Looking For The Rare One

Advancing Ham Radio

Many of us have seen it before. Working late at night trying to find the one that we need in the log for that one rare contact that will make the difference for the next award.

However never before has it been easier than after you have installed the Cluster Program from VE7CC. One of the greatest programs for really zeroing in on what is happening on the air this author has seen yet.

Try it I think you'll like it.

What is the job you ask?
