"Thousands of fans bid Stern farewell
NEW YORK (AP) - Howard Stern fans have gathered for a big goodbye.
Thousands of people stood in a steady drizzle in midtown Manhattan -- many holding signs -- as the popular radio host wrapped up his final show on 'terrestrial' radio.
Among them were Stern regulars 'Jeff the Drunk' and 'Beetlejuice,' who led a singalong. Many of the signs praised Stern and attacked the Federal Communications Commission.
Stern is leaving his syndicated show for satellite radio in January. He has a five-year, 500 million-dollar contract with Sirius to create two new channels for the company.
Stern's show has been the center of attention in First Amendment issues and censorship. Infinity Broadcasting has paid millions of dollars to settle FCC complaints against Stern.

Code may be taking a back seat for now,
but the pioneering spirit that put the code
there in the first place is out front of it all.
