Wireless HAM radio operators were in the Andaman islands when the earthquake happened. Here are accounts of their stories as reported at ARRL.org. HAM radio operators are very often the first emergency responders to set up communications in to, out of, and within the affected areas of a disaster. In this case, the team was able to communicate over great distances using the HF band, which can reach for thousands of miles under the right conditions.
