"Knox Countians make a difference for storm victims

MOUNT VERNON

The weather put a damper on Knox Countys Make a Difference Day crowd-wise, but the spirit of those wanting to help those in need was not dampened.

Knox Countians once again dug deep in their pockets and contributed a total of $7,020.45 Saturday. The total includes the $415 raised through the auction of 84 pounds of pork and ham, and an additional $80 donated by the anonymous donors who provided the meat to Knox County Makes a Difference Day.

This has been an amazing day, Marcy Rinehart of WNZR 90.9 FM, said Saturday night after the meat auction. Its been literally less than six weeks of planning for a countywide effort to benefit the American Red Cross Hurricane Disaster Relief Fund. I want to encourage the citizens of Knox County not to forget those whose lives have been drastically altered by the storms. We dont always see the pictures about Katrinas destruction in the papers and on the news anymore, but the need is still there, it hasnt gone away.

I hope that we continue to pray for these people who have been affected, continue to give, and continue to support an agency like the American Red Cross that has been so great. "
