"Every night on television there are scenes from the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina the total devastation, the misery and the hopelessness. But unless we know someone who has visited New Orleans or Biloxi, the hardest hit Gulf cities, we don't hear about some of the good things happening.

We don't hear about the Ham Radio operators connecting family members who were separated during or after Katrina's fury. We don't hear about church congregations, doctors, nurses, teachers and other groups from our own state that have already left for the Gulf Coast to pitch in and help.

And we don't hear about residents who've taken victims into their own homes for an indefinite time period. Hoosiers are asking themselves, What can we do?

The list is endless, but caution is advised. "
