Lots of Harborites are helping with the hurricane relief efforts -- whether they're going to the Gulf Coast or sending support and donations from home. Here's information on just some of the Harborites who are trying to do their part to help out.
Retired Aberdeen Fire Capt. George Stone of Montesano was in Louisiana helping provide radio communications under the Amateur Radio Relay Leagues' Amateur Radio Emergency Service. Stone, who is a member of the local Amateur Radio Emergency Communications group's Auxiliary Emergency Communications team, is in charge of Grays Harbor's Department of Emergency Management radio room in Montesano. In Covington, La., he helped with the radio 'Net Control,' which is 'like a traffic cop to all the other radio units in the field,' said Doyle Wenzel, another local Ham radio operator. 'Much like 911 and their dispatchers, all radio traffic goes through the Net Control operator.'"

Code may be taking a back seat for now,
but the pioneering spirit that put the code
there in the first place is out front of it all.
